EXHIBITION after a one month residency at Alassio.
”SPIRITUM” il respiro della terra (“TO BREATH” the breath of earth)
In Terzorio, a small village in the hills of the Imperia regions you can find this little mountain of clay, called “terra bianca” (“white clay”).
Finding the opportunity to finally work with wild, raw clay this was a small glimpse on what can come out, on my research of the ‘void’.
For a while now, I have been working on this specific empty space.
Where years ago, before clay had even come into my life, I had asked myself, after a hurtful period:
“What is this Void I am feeling and if I had to materialize it (show it),
with what would I fill it with!?
It is still a work in progress and it is taking different forms of development.
I consider using architecture and nature to reveal the sensation I feel when visualizing this space. A sense of fulfilment while light comes out of this emptiness.
While taking earth from this mountain, I move it into the space of the gallery.
It is Raw. I create this void by emerging a piece I made out of the same earth, firing it and filling it with gold.
On the other hand we have these small rounded forms.
It’s the earth trying to breath, small openings, gasping for breath.. like pockets of air!
Using ancient techniques I suffocate the clay by burning all its oxygen.
Red turns into black.
