Cocoon
2021
Inspired by the space it was exhibited in,
At Kohila Paberivabrik, an abandoned paper factory,
during the Kohila International Wood firing Symposium 2021 in Estonia.
I feel it was just waiting for the right moment and the right space to reveal itself.
The image just appeared to me and the meaning of it later,
as it concludes and elevates a moment of pain in my life!
For me a transformation in many senses!
The weight of clay, not only on its physical level
but also in its ancient meaning and memory, is here lightened and uplifted.
Working with clay, soil from earth mixed with water,
you go through different stages of transformation.
From soft and maniable, to still but fragile. to hard and compact.
It’s a constant shifting and working on the elements.
You work with, earth, water, air and fire in a literal way, on every stage of the way.
You observe as clay turns into stone.
It’s a kind of small death as you transform earth into something that can never turn back to its initial state!
It is immortalized!
Mineralised!
I guide the elements and listen to them but mainly I want to connect to them on a deeper level!
These are the reasons I was drawn to work with Wood Firing,
and the fact that I feel it has ancient roots in my soul!
Sometimes the many things we work on, as fragments, just find the connection between each other and between them and you.
They just come together like magic.
These moments are when you realize that you are connected to your higher self!
You are centered and you are at the right place.
Where in the chaos around, inside and outside you become alive and find some peace!
